Read: Deuteronomy 10-12

Deuteronomy 10:1-2 – At that time the Lord said to me, “Chisel out two stone tablets like the first ones and come up to me on the mountain. Also make a wooden ark. I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke. Then you are to put them in the ark.”

Our God is a God not just of second chances, but many chances.

When Moses came down from Mount Sinai, having received the Ten Commandments, he found the Israelites revelling in the worship of the golden calf. In his anger, he threw the stones to the ground, breaking them. Moses broke the tablets of the law, not only out of anger, but also as a powerful visual representation of Israel’s breaking of the law of God. Now God commanded that they restore the law by bringing forth two new tablets of the law.

When Israel worshipped idols they sinned greatly against God. It broke their relationship with God. But, God did not leave it there. He restored them in their relationship to Himself. God is a God of grace and mercy. He restores us (Psalm 23:3). When we have sinned and have lost the joy of our salvation, He restores us our souls (Psalm 51:12). God is able to restore the years that the years that the locusts have eaten (Joel 2:25). God promises to put a new heart and a new spirit within us (Ezekiel 36:26).

Getting right with God after a time of rebellion must always begin and center on God’s word. In the days of Josiah, King of Judah, repentance and revival came to the people of God when they focused on God’s word again (2 Kings 22:8-23:25).

Twelve reasons why the Word of God is key to restoration

  1. The Word of God reveals God’s character (Psalm 119:89)
  2. The Word of God is full of rich promises (2 Peter 1:4)
  3. The Word of God convicts hearts (Hebrews 4:12)
  4. The Word of God brings us to repentance (Acts 2:37)
  5. The Word of God provides the guidance we need (Psalm 119:105)
  6. The Word of God gives us much needed direction (Proverbs 3:5-6))
  7. The Word of God brings healing (Psalm 107:20)
  8. The Word of God alone can bring true transformation (Romans 12:2)
  9. The Word of God builds our faith (Romans 10:17)
  10. The Word of God strengthens us (Joshua 1:8)
  11. The Word of God sustains us (Matthew 4:4)
  12. The Word of God nourishes us (Psalm 119:103)

The Word of God is not just a collection of ancient writings; it is a powerful tool for restoration in our lives. Through the pages of Scripture, we discover God’s grace, receive His forgiveness, and experience the transformative power of His love.

In those moments when we feel broken, lost, or burdened by guilt, it is through the Word that we find hope and healing. It is in the promises and teachings of Scripture that we encounter the very heart of God, who longs to restore and renew us.

Don’t underestimate the power of the Word of God. It has the ability to strengthen your faith, sustain you in difficult times, and nourish your soul. It is a living and active force that can bring about incredible change within you.

Would you commit to spending time in the Word of God daily?

Let it be more than just a religious duty or a checklist item. Approach it with an open heart, ready to receive the life-giving truths that God wants to speak into your life. As you read, meditate, and study the Word, allow its truths to take root in your life. Let it become the foundation on which you build your relationship with God. Seek His guidance and direction through His Word, and watch as He brings transformation and renewal.

Ponder

  1. How has the Word of God brought restoration and renewal into your life?
  2. Are there areas in your life where you have experienced brokenness or a sense of loss? How can the Word of God bring healing and restoration to those areas?
  3. How can you prioritize daily engagement with the Word of God in your life? What practical steps can you take to ensure that it becomes a transformative and life-giving part of your routine?
