Strength Rises from Tears: Trusting in the Midst of Suffering

Romans 5:3-5 – Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

The journey of Christian growth and maturity includes a golden chain of virtues: perseverance, character, and hope.

Every believer desires to possess unwavering character and boundless hope, and yet, it is through tribulation that these qualities truly blossom. As we strive to reflect the pattern of Jesus in our lives, one quality builds upon the other, forming a steadfast foundation of faith. God’s plan for our development does not involve a mere sprinkle of virtues while we sleep, but rather a purposeful journey through challenges and trials. And so, with reverence and trust in His love, may we embrace tribulation, knowing that God carefully measures each trial and has a loving purpose to fulfill within them.

Pain and suffering in many a form

Is the reality of every life and home.

It is never easy to understand

Neither ever easy to withstand

And yet, would you choose to trust Him

For strength rises from tears and pain

Suffering causes pain, an aching heart

When our eyes with tears do smart

With no signs of comfort or relief

Leading to anger, sadness and grief

Even then, would you choose to seek Him

For strength rises from tears and pain

Through the fear and the frustration

Times of helplessness and devastation

When all hope seems to be gone

And curtains seem to have been drawn

Even then, would you choose to rest in Him

For strength rises from tears and pain

Friend, when you don’t understand

And the pain is more than you can stand

Even then, would you trust and rest

In the One who loves you and knows best

Then you will find, strength does rise through the pain

In tears and suffering will there be, much gain
