I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You. – Psalm 119:11

The 66 books of the Bible are collected into two ‘libraries’ that were written over a period of around 1500 years. Though a very old book written to guide people in their lives centuries ago, this love letter from God remains alive and relevant, still able to answer the needs of people today.
Though this psalm has no title, its style suggests that it originated with David the shepherd boy who became the king of Israel. This is the longest of the Psalms and focuses on the Word of God.
This psalm glorifies God and His Word. It refers to the Scripture in almost every verse. The psalmist says he has hidden God’s Word in his heart. He spends much time with the Word and he meditates on God’s Word. How can you meditate on God’s Word?
To meditate is ‘the soul’s chewing’ said the Yorkshire preacher, William Grimshaw, two hundred fifty years ago. To meditate is to focus, to fix our eyes on His ways (v15) so that we understand (v 27).
And as we meditate and remember all that God has done, we are inclined to worship Him and delight in His Word. The outcome of our meditation is that we apply what we learn from His Word leading to lives transformed for Him. Lives that are transformed are aligned with God and His will, bringing Him glory and honor.
How are you growing in your love for God’s Word?
Lord, help me meditate on your Word and may my life be transformed for your glory, I pray.
