Re-shaped for His Use (Jeremiah 18:1-10) GOD’S WILL

Although our sins testify against us, do something, Lord, for the sake of your name. For we have often rebelled; we have sinned against you. – Jeremiah 14:7

In the Bible, God has often used daily life examples to teach deep truths. And this time God has one such lesson through Jeremiah. God asked Jeremiah to go down to the house of the potter. Jeremiah observed the potter making his pots. The pot that was being made, got marred in the potter’s hand. And so, the potter formed it into another pot, shaping as seemed best to him (v4).

The Lord used this analogy, to remind Jeremiah of His sovereign right to do what He pleased with a marred or uncooperative vessel. Israel marred themselves morally and spiritually before God.

Interestingly, the potter does not throw away the clay that got marred instead He re-uses and re-shapes. And thankfully that is what God does with Israel and each of us too. The Lord does not give up on us when we mess up. He re-shapes and re-orders our lives that we would still be useful in His hand.

God has created each of us, fearfully and wonderfully (Psalm 139:13-16). We are to take what He has given us and use it for His glory and pleasure. Rather than live with disappointment and dissatisfaction with what God has or has not given us, we can choose to thank Him in everything.

Just as the clay finds its highest purpose when it remains pliable in the hands of the potter, so our lives fulfill their highest purpose when we let our Potter have His way in us.

Lord, mold me and make me, for your glorious purposes I pray.
