Now give me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day. – Joshua 14:12

Caleb had a long wait. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE

Caleb and Joshua were among the twelve that Moses sent to explore the land of Canaan. Only the two of them came back with positive reports, believing that the land could be conquered, by God’s grace. The ten others gave a conflicting report of giants and fear. The people chose to believe the ten and not Caleb and Joshua.

When an entire nation headed in one direction, Caleb was one of the two rowing the other way. The people’s lack of faith made the Lord angry. And so, the Lord said, not one of that generation would live to see the Promised Land, except for Joshua and Caleb.

The Lord promised to bring Caleb to the Promised Land because in him was a different spirit and he followed God wholeheartedly (Numbers 14:24). Caleb had not forgotten the promise of God. He waited patiently, in faith, trusting God to keep His Word. And now, after forty-five long years, he comes to Joshua to claim the land that the Lord had promised him. And Joshua gives him the land of Hebron.

Caleb waited long, but in faith and hope. He was not bitter, nor did he give up. He remembered the promise of God and he claimed it. God’s children do have periods of waiting. We are called not just to wait, but to wait with a good attitude, with faith and hope.

How can you be more like Caleb as you wait for God to fulfil the promise that He has given you?

Lord, help me live in hope and patience each day as I wait for you, I pray.

Beyond Ourselves (Psalm 102:1-28) LOVE

The poorest, the most difficult person, the most ignorant convert, every single one is precious to the Lord and so is to be precious to the church of God.
