But Moses said, “Please do not leave us. You know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you can be our eyes. If you come with us, we will share with you whatever good things the Lord gives us.”
Numbers 10:31-32
The Israelites set out, finally. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE
The tribes of Israel had been waiting for this time when they leave Sinai for Canaan. After their three-month journey from Egypt, they had camped near the sacred mountain for eleven months. And now they set out, in the same way God had commanded at the time of the census. What an amazing sight it must have been. And yet their joy was short lived. Though the people possessed ample evidence of God’s power and goodness, they would soon reject God and doubt His ability to give them the Promised Land. And their tragic unbelief led them to wander in the desert for the next forty years.
As they prepare to leave, Moses urges his brother-in-law Hobab to come with them. Though he refuses initially, he agrees eventually. When we share the gospel with people, they may not agree immediately. Don’t give up. Continue to encourage them to come with you and that you will share your blessings with them. Continue to witness to them.
A witness is one who testifies to what he has seen or heard and verifies what is true. As believers who have tasted and seen that the Lord is God, we are to share out life’s experience with those who don’t know Him. We are to testify to God’s goodness and faithfulness in our lives, to share it with others.
When is the last time you shared the gospel with someone?
Lord, help me encourage and point at least one person to you this week, I pray.
