From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned; the Lord blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the Lord was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field. Genesis 39:5
Young Joseph was a slave. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE
Sold as a slave by his own brothers, Joseph finds himself in the house of Potiphar the Egyptian. In no time, Joseph moved from being the favourite son of his father to the hated brother, hated enough to be sold as a slave. Why, Lord, why, could easily have been his response.
Joseph had a choice to make. He chose to trust God enough not to question, whine, or complain. He chose to trust God, enough to accept his circumstances and to serve happily with honesty and integrity.
And the result? Potiphar’s household was blessed.
Potiphar, the pagan, was blessed because Joseph trusted and honoured God. Potiphar, the master, was blessed because the slave chose to serve with integrity. Potiphar, the rich man, got richer because the slave Joseph was faithful to his God. Now, how is that for fairness? Potiphar was blessed and Joseph’s reward was nowhere in sight.
God’s children are to serve Him faithfully, wherever we are. We are called to trust Him for who He is and not depending on how our circumstances are going. And, God does surely use His children to bless others.
Who is being blessed because you are serving joyfully, trusting God, despite your circumstances?
Heavenly Father, for the times I have whined and questioned you, forgive me. Give me, Lord, the grace to serve you joyfully with integrity, I pray.
