The woman gave birth to a boy and named him Samson. He grew, and the Lord blessed him.
Judges 13:24

The cycle of sin, repentance, deliverance, and sin again continued in the history of Israel. And into such times was born the next judge of Israel, Samson. Born a Nazirite, Samson was set apart. God had given him the great supernatural strength to do His work in Israel. But Samson soon fell. He became great in His own eyes. He was vengeful. He began to pursue women. And that was not God’s plan for his life.

During his wedding ceremony to a Philistine woman, Samson was humiliated. He took revenge by killing thousand Philistine men. Then Samson fell in love with Delilah, another Philistine woman. But she, bribed by the Philistines, coaxes Samson to reveal that the secret of his strength lay in his hair. Delilah cuts his hair in his sleep and Samson loses his strength. The Philistines overpower him and gouge out his eyes.

A repentant Samson cries to the Lord. The Lord strengthens him one last time. Samson pushes against the pillars and brings down the temple where he was held captive. Samson dies with thousands of people that were in that temple that day.

Samson, though mentioned in the Bible’s hall of faith (Hebrews 11:32), also serves as a great warning. A man of great physical strength, he also displayed great moral failure. Samson did not live out his full potential of what he could have been if he had lived, as the one set apart, in obedience to God.

Are you living out your life, set apart unto the Lord and to your full potential?

Lord, help me live for you, to the fullest of my potential, I pray.

Beyond Ourselves (Psalm 102:1-28) LOVE

The poorest, the most difficult person, the most ignorant convert, every single one is precious to the Lord and so is to be precious to the church of God.
