Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I had a dream, and no one can interpret it. But I have heard it said of you that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.” I cannot do it,” Joseph replied to Pharaoh, “but God will give Pharaoh the answer he desires.” Genesis 41:15-16
Young Joseph had been through a lot in his short life. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE
Sold into slavery by his own brothers, Joseph ends up in the household of Potiphar. His misery did not end there. Though he was hardworking and sincere in all his work, he soon enough finds himself in Pharaoh’s prison, falsely accused of seducing Potiphar’s wife. And there, Joseph remained for more than two years.
When in prison God gives Joseph the ability to interpret dreams. He interprets the dreams of the baker and the cupbearer. Soon enough, Pharaoh has dreams that disturb him. None of his wise men could explain the dream to him. Then the cupbearer remembers and tells Pharaoh how Joseph had interpreted his dream correctly.
Joseph is brought in from the prison. When Pharaoh tells Joseph that he has heard that Joseph could interpret dreams, Joseph is clear and quick to bring perspective. No, it is not Joseph, but the God he served, who could interpret dreams.
Joseph was very clear. He knew he was but an instrument, whom God uses for His own purposes. Joseph explains the meaning of the dreams, it makes sense to Pharaoh. Joseph is elevated to the position second only to the Pharaoh himself.
All that we have is from the Lord and so none of us have reason to boast. (1 Corinthians 4:7)
