The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world and who live in it. – Psalm 24:1

Plain and simple. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE

The psalmist David is establishing a very basic truth with this simple statement. The earth belongs to the Lord and all that is in and on the earth, belong to Him. The reason? It is He who created everything.

It is the Lord who created the plants, trees, fish in the sea, birds of the air, every animal, insect or creature, every single thing on the earth. God created man, which means each one of us. All that the Lord created belongs to Him. It is as simple as that.

Now if this is the truth, what is to be our reasonable response to this God? C. S. Lewis summarized it well when he said, ‘every faculty you have, your power of thinking or moving your limbs from moment to moment, it is given to you by God. If you devoted every moment of your whole life exclusively to His service, you could not give Him anything that was not in a sense His own already.’

How powerful and yet so very true. There is actually nothing we can give back to God in return, that is not His already. This truth should cause us live with hearts of unending gratitude and adoration to this amazing Creator, in whom we live, move and have our being for we are His offspring. (Acts 17:28).

If each of us were to actually live by this truth, that the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, what a different place our world would be.

What will you do to bring awareness of this truth this week, in your home, place of work and other areas of influence?

Lord help me be ever conscious that it is you who has given us this beautiful earth and all that we have.
