He said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent.” – 2 Samuel 7:2

God had finally given King David rest. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE

From the days of being anointed as the next king of Israel, till now, David faced so many challenges and wars. It took years of running from jealous King Saul before David even became king. And after that, he faced so many wars, assassination attempts, and even mutiny. And now finally, he had rest. He had truly earned it. He could comfortably rest and enjoy himself; wouldn’t you think?

Well, not King David. His heart was so full of gratitude to the Lord. His heart burned with the desire to do something for the Lord. He was uncomfortable. How could he live in the opulence of his cedar palace while the ark of the Lord remained in a tent? So, he thinks of building a temple for the Lord.

David never forgot his humble beginnings. He never forgot from where to where the Lord had brought him. David says, who am I, Sovereign Lord, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? (1 Samuel 7:18). And as he remembers, he is overwhelmed with gratitude. His response, what shall I return to the Lord for all his goodness to me? (Psalm 116:12). This humble man tried to find ways to glorify God and honour Him.

A humble heart never forgets the past goodness of God. A humble heart is a grateful heart. A humble heart is constantly trying to return something for God’s goodness.

How, are you reflecting a humble heart today?

Lord, may I ever live my life in gratitude, I pray.
