Moses returned to the Lord and said, “Why, Lord, why have you brought trouble on this people? Is this why you sent me? – Exodus 5:22

It was surely God who had called him. God had called him out of the burning bush to lead the Israelites out of their slavery in Egypt. The Lord had even shown him signs to assure him that it was the Lord himself, the great I AM who had called him.

God had specifically asked him to go to Pharaoh and ask him to let his people go. Moses just obeyed. Then what went wrong? Why had the Pharaoh made it even more difficult for the Israelites, rather than letting them go? Why had the Israelites themselves turned against him? Moses just could not figure it out.

The Bible says Moses returned to the Lord and he asked some real honest questions.

Now, is there anything wrong in asking questions to the Lord? Absolutely not! It is interesting that it was the Lord to whom Moses returned to when he was confused. He didn’t go around asking Aaron or talking to anyone else. He went straight to the Lord. In his asking though, Moses isn’t shaking his fist at God, but asking from a place of humility, genuinely trying to understand. The fact that he goes back to the Lord also reflects that he is still willing to listen to Him. His confusion does not mean he has lost faith in God.

There may be times when we are confused and have questions too. Let us come to Him, as Moses did, from a place of humility and with a heart willing to listen and obey.

Lord, help me to humbly trust you, even when I don’t understand, I pray.
