I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” – Genesis 28:15
Jacob was on the run. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE
Jacob had messed up, messed up so bad that he literally had to run for his life. Not only had he manipulated Esau, his older brother, out of his birthright in exchange for a bowl of soup, but now he had deceived his father, Isaac, by pretending to be Esau and had stolen his blessing.
Esau was so furious with him, that he was waiting for an opportunity to kill him. And Jacob ran. On Isaac’s instruction, Jacob is now fleeing to Haran. Isaac told him to go to Laban, his mother Rebekah’s brother, to take for himself a wife from among Laban’s daughters. And so, he goes on this journey through the desert.
And as he rests for the night, all he has is a stone for his pillow. But in that place, God meets him. The Lord appears to Jacob in a dream and comforts him. He promises to watch over him and not to leave him. For all that Jacob had done, he may even have expected to be punished. But instead, God comes and meets him at his point of need. What an awesome God.
And this God has not changed. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He remains the same loving God, who promises to be with us, provide for us, and never leave us nor forsake us. He calls you to run to Him with all your needs and problems.
Is this God your God?
Lord, thank you for the loving and amazing God you are. Help me always run to you, I pray.
