Read the Bible in One Year: OT Judges 9-10, NT Luke 5:17-39

Luke 5:17 – One day Jesus was teaching, and Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there. They had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with Jesus to heal the sick.

Jesus has power and authority over sin and sickness.

Jesus had the extraordinary ability to bring about miraculous healing, signifying the unmatched power and authority of God. He healed the paralysed man brought to Him by his four friends. Spurgeon spoke of the quality of men who would bring a friend to Jesus in such a way: “They need be strong, for the burden is heavy; they need be resolute, for the work will try their faith; they need be prayerful, for otherwise they labor in vain; they must be believing, or they will be utterly useless.”

Despite the presence of skeptics and doubters among the Pharisees and teachers of the law, Jesus carried the undeniable power of the Lord within Him. His ability to heal the sick and restore lives was a testament to His divine authority.

Throughout the Bible, we see numerous examples of God’s power and authority. From the creation of the world to the liberation of the Israelites from Egypt, and even in the miracles performed by the early disciples in the book of Acts, God’s power transcends human understanding and surpasses all expectations.

As believers, we are called to recognize and rely on the power and authority of God. We can find strength and hope in knowing that the same power that worked miracles in the past is available to us today. No challenge or situation is too difficult for our Heavenly Father.

When we face uncertainties, challenges, or impossible circumstances, we can confidently turn to the power and authority of God. It is a power that brings healing, restoration, and transformation. It breaks chains, shatters strongholds, and conquers darkness. In our weakness, God’s power is made perfect.

Let us approach the throne of God with boldness and confidence, knowing that His power and authority are with us. We can seek His guidance, trusting that He has ultimate authority over all things. In our struggles, we can rely on His strength, for nothing is impossible for Him.

May the knowledge of God’s power and authority inspire us to live lives of faith and boldness. Let us step out in obedience, knowing that our God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think. As we experience the transformative love of our Heavenly Father, may His power and authority be manifested in our lives, bringing glory to His name and drawing others to Him.

Ponder

  1. How does the knowledge of God’s power and authority influence your understanding of His love and care for you? How can you rest in His strength and find comfort in His sovereignty?
  2. In what areas of your life do you need to rely more on God’s power and authority rather than your own strength or understanding?
  3. Who do you need to prayerfully and in faith bring to Jesus? What hinders you?
