We are here again, at the threshold of yet another season of Advent. The past year may have been one of many challenges for all of us, time of personal loss of loved ones for some, financial challenges for others while a time of emotional strain, fear, and uncertainty for all of us. And yet, through it all, we rest in Him our solid Rock and resonate with the words of the hymn-writer Edward Mote:
My Hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name
On Christ the solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand
When darkness veils His lovely face
I rest on his unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil
On Christ the solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand
As we prepare our hearts for yet another season of Advent, and all the busyness it tends to entail, let’s take time to pause. Let us make time to meditate on this God who sent His only begotten Son into the world to redeem the world. Let us ask who is He, anyways? Is He all that people say He is? Is He truly the God of all the universe and the Redeemer of the human race? Who is He?
At whose feet the shepherds fall
‘Tis the Lord, o wondrous story
‘Tis the Lord, the King of glory
At His feet, we humbly fall
Crown Him, crown Him, Lord of all
Over the coming week let’s take time to pause and ponder some of the attributes of this awesome God and renew our commitment to love and serve Him increasingly in the year ahead.
