Lord, we confess that we don’t pray enough. You have commanded us to pray in all situations, but we don’t. Sometimes we pray superficially. Other times we don’t pray because we feel it is too small or insignificant for a mighty God like you, or because we think we can manage, revealing our own pride. Lord, there are times we are so overwhelmed by our guilt, that we buy into the lies of the devil, who tells us that our sin is too big for you to want to answer our prayer or even listen to us. Master, but what we don’t realise is that when we don’t pray we are taking an active side with the devil to fight against you, to frustrate your good purposes. Forgive us, Lord, we pray.
Help us Lord, to be intentional, give us hearts that long to commune with you in prayer. Lord help us understand that the real and true purpose of prayer is to align our wills with yours, to worship you, to thank you, and to ask and receive from you. Help us Lord, to move from ‘grocery-listing’ you when we pray, to true heart-felt worship and submission to you and your perfect will, as we grow in our prayer lives. Help us to be people who are willing to labor in prayer for it is indeed hard and persisting work. Help us to follow your perfect example, Lord Jesus, we pray.
Philippians 4:6-7 – Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Mark 1:35 – Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a [k]solitary place; and there He prayed.
Ponder this: What needs to change in my prayer life to be more like Jesus?
