Heart Full of Joy

Psalm 33:1 – Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous; for praise from the upright is beautiful.

God’s people are called to rejoice in Him.

To rejoice is to feel or show great joy or delight. An upright person is one without deception (Psalm 32:2), is full of the integrity of heart, and is the opposite of the perverse (Proverbs 8:8).

An upright person is also one who rejoices. God regards worship from His people, as beautiful. Our praise pleases Him and creates a sense of appreciation for beauty. God appreciates our praise.

To rejoice in the Lord, though an important command, is often not practiced enough. We are quick to raise our petitions to God in prayer while rejoicing in Him does seem to take a back seat many a time. And yet, the people of God have much to rejoice about. We may not always have situations and circumstances that make us very joyful, yet we can always rejoice in who our Lord is and His unchanging character.

We rejoice in God when we remember His forgiveness and redemption. We rejoice in His protection and guidance. We rejoice in His presence and His provision.  We rejoice in God as we remember HIs faithfulness to us over the years, in small and big ways. We rejoice in Him for His unchanging character which includes but is not limited to His unconditional love

We are to rejoice in the Lord and nothing else. “To rejoice in temporal comforts is dangerous, to rejoice in self is foolish, to rejoice in sin is fatal, but to rejoice in God is heavenly.” (Spurgeon).

What is keeping you from rejoicing in the Lord today?

Lord help me never forget your many blessings, loosen my tongue to praise you, I pray.
