07: Divine Resource

Published on Nov 1, 2024

Zechariah 4:6 – Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.

The Lord explains how Zerubbabel will accomplish the work.

Zerubbabel was the civic leader of Jerusalem and had the responsibility to finish the work of rebuilding the temple. The work had stalled and he needed encouragement to carry on. The work of the Lord needed resources, but not the resources of human might and power.

‘Might’ is the collective strength or resources of a group while ‘power’ refers to individual strength. God says to Zerubbabel that it will not be your cleverness, your ability, or your physical strength by which the temple will be rebuilt. It will be rebuilt by My Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the rich resource needed to accomplish God’s work. When we trust our own resources, whether small or big, we don’t enjoy the full supply of the Spirit. The Spirit of God that parted the Red Sea (Exodus 14) and gave life to dead bones (Ezekiel 37), is our resource. We are to rely on the Holy Spirit continually to accomplish the work that God has entrusted us.

As you serve the Lord, are you trusting in your own might and power or are you relying on Him?

Thank you, Lord, for your Spirit which enables me to accomplish your work.
