Amazing God

Psalm 139:6 – Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

This wonderful psalm was penned by David, expressing what he knew about God.

David begins the psalm by saying God has already searched and known him. That’s past tense. Then in verse two he says God’s knowing is not restricted to his past, but continues in the present. God knows when he sits, stands, where he goes and what he does. And finally, in verse four he says God is not only aware of his past, and is involved with his present, but also knows what David would do in the future, every word that would come from his mouth. God knew things about David that he did not know himself. And then comes the ultimate assurance, He is a God who hems him from all sides and lays His hand of protection on him.

As David moves from penning facts about his God, he now comes to a point of amazement. He is simply awe-struck by what he realises. Why would this amazing God of all the universe, the Creator of all that is, the One who calls the stars by name, be interested in David, this speck of a human being? This knowledge is simply way beyond his understanding.

The God of David is the same God who is our God today. He continues to know each of us, all that we were, all that we are, and all that we will ever be. How will this reminder about who God is, change how you think and act, in the coming week?

Lord thank You for the amazing God you are. Help me trust You more and more each day.
