Anticipating the Soon and Sure Coming Christ

Read: Matthew 24:29-51

But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.

Matthew 24:36-37

The Lord is coming again and that is for sure. The question is – are you prepared?

Referring back to the original question of Matthew 24:3 about the sign of His coming, Jesus gives a rather unexpected answer. He clearly and firmly says no one, not He nor the angels knows the time day, and hour of His return. However, He says the time of His return would be as in the days of Noah.

So, what was it like in the days of Noah? The Bible tells us it was “business as usual™ eating, drinking, and marrying (Luke 17:26-27). Scripture implies that God waited patiently through nearly one hundred years as Noah completed the ark and warned the people but the people though totally depraved, were least concerned about it. (2 Peter 3:20, Hebrews 11:7). We also see that it was a time marked by depravity and ungodly lifestyles causing the Lord to “regret He had made man” (Genesis 6:6). Sound familiar? It is becoming increasingly evident that to understand what the world was like in the days of Noah, we only need to watch the news.

The Lord is coming, His return imminent

Don’t let anyone fool you into believing otherwise

The question and quarrel of time and date are not pertinent

Rather for us to focus, on the eternal crown and prize

The word reminds us, it is not for us to know the ‘when’

But it is for us now to prepare for the ‘then’

So, O Lord at your return, may we faithful be found

With flames burning bright, our lamps with oil abound

What is our response? When the roll is called up yonder will you be there?

Are any of the situations of the ‘days of Noah’ a reality in your life? Would you ask the Lord to give you a tender and repentant heart that is quick to agree with Him about any sin He might reveal to you? Is there anything you need to do differently to be ready for Jesus’ arrival? Would you ask the Lord to enable you to spend time listening to Him in His word?

Are you a ‘Noah’ warning those around you of what is to come? Do not give up! Be faithful to do ‘all that God has commanded you’, just as Noah did.

Prayer

Lord, stir my heart that I be quick to repent and be ready for your imminent return, Amen.

Part 6: Cleansed and Focused

The person with a pure heart can see God in nature, in Scripture, in the people around. They will enjoy greater intimacy with God than they could have imagined.
Would the Lord find yours to be a heart that is pure?

Those who are grateful for mercy, are merciful. The bottomless well of mercy extended, should motivate and compel one to pass on the blessing.
