Can We Trust God in Difficult Times?

But Joseph replied, Don’t be afraid of me. Am I God, that I can punish you? You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.

Genesis 50:19-20

God is sovereign

God is sovereign! That means absolutely nothing that happens in the universe is outside of God’s influence and authority. As King of kings and Lord of lords, God has no limitations.

Joseph understood this truth well. He trusted God through the difficult circumstances of his life. From being sold as a slave to being put in prison for no fault of his, Joseph trusted God and was able to see that God worked all things for good according to His wonderful purposes (Romans 8:28). If Joseph never went to Egypt, he wouldn’t have been sold to Potiphar or become his prime minister. If Prime Minister Joseph did not wisely prepare for the famine, his family back in Canaan would have died. And if the family had died, Jesus, the Messiah would never have come and we would all be dead in our sins.

Trusting God in difficult times

Is there an especially difficult situation you are facing today? Would you ask God to help you, like Joseph, trust and rest in the overarching, overruling sovereign hand of God?

This was encouragement. I was really blessed by hearing the practical shouting that you were talking in this blog post. I felt as if though you were trying to convince me that Jesus is king or ELSE! haha! no joke, I really did like this blog post, it made me feel very energetic about the word of God, as if though I have the courage to go out there and try and communicate the gospel to the world, even though I have that now. Thank you for sharing this!

Those who are grateful for mercy, are merciful. The bottomless well of mercy extended, should motivate and compel one to pass on the blessing.
