The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.

Exodus 14:14

God fights your battles

The Lord is our Defender. He continues to fight our battles for us, we only need to be still.

The Israelites were quite literally, between the deep and the devil. Having recently left Egypt as a massive exodus in the wake of the spectacular display of God’s power through the ten plagues on Egypt, they were now terrified. Pharaoh who was quick to recant on his decision to let Israel go, was now in hot pursuit, with all the chariots of Egypt. The Israelites, who had the Red Sea in front of them, and Pharaoh at their back, seemed completely trapped. They were petrified!

God parts the sea

Moses reminded the Israelites, that God was their Defender and He would fight for them. They only had to be still. The way God delivered His people, yet again, is mind-boggling. God parted the waters of the Red Sea for the Israelites to walk across. And immediately after, the very same waters completely drowned and wiped out Pharaoh and his chariot army that followed them.

Being still, especially in times of crisis, can be very tough, don’t you think? When faced with challenging situations, our immediate and urgent response can be varied – we fret, we fume, we worry, we feel we just have to do something, anything but be still, right? And yet, God’s word reminds us to be still and that He will fight our battles for us. To trust and rest in God and let Him be God is the best and the right place to be.

As the oceans rise and the thunders of life roar, would you ask God to help you be still and know that He is God?

Part 6: Cleansed and Focused

The person with a pure heart can see God in nature, in Scripture, in the people around. They will enjoy greater intimacy with God than they could have imagined.
Would the Lord find yours to be a heart that is pure?
