Acts 12:15 – “You’re out of your mind,” they told her. When she kept insisting that it was so, they said, “It must be his angel.”
The church was praying earnestly for the release of Peter.
Herod had begun persecuting those who belong to the church. He had just had James the brother of John beheaded. Now he had put Peter in prison and was to bring him to trial the next day. The church was petrified and praying desperately for the release of their leader, Peter.
The Lord answered their prayer, sent an angel to wake Peter up from his deep sleep and miraculously brought him out of the prison. An awestruck and overjoyed Peter went straight to the home of Mary, where he knew the church would be gathered and praying. But when he knocked and the little girl reported that Peter was at the door, the response of the church was, ‘you’re out of your mind, it must be his angel?’
How often, our prayers are no different. We are deeply disturbed about many things in our lives. Our problems are way too big and well beyond our ability to solve. We turn to God and we seek Him earnestly. We ask Him, we beg and plead with Him, asking Him to answer. But then we are caught unawares, when the Lord does actually answer our prayer and we think, ‘you’re out of your mind?’
When we pray, do we truly know and believe that he hears us? Do we live lives of faith, each day, knowing that, whatever we ask, we have what we asked of him (1 John 5:15)?
