Part 2 – Promise-Keeper

Advent: Who is He in Yonder Stall?

Genesis 3:15 – And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.

As we continue in this series “˜Who is He in Yonder Stall™ and ponder the Christ of Christmas, we now turn our gaze to the garden of Eden.

God created all the beauty and splendor of earth and the crown of His work, man and woman. As the pinnacle of all of creation, Adam and Eve were given the earth to enjoy in all its beauty, with the responsibility to till and take care of it too.

Glorious days “ when life was simple and beautiful. Carefree days spent in the resplendent beauty of the garden of Eden, with rich and precious walks with the Lord Himself in the cool of the evening. What more could they ask for right? And yet sadly, even that didn’t seem good enough.

And so, soon enough, man fell into the trap of the devil’s schemes and headlong into the abyss of sin, bringing eternal separation between God and man. Forced to throw Adam and Eve out of the garden, the Lord pronounced a curse on the serpent and a promise for the human race (Genesis 3:15). The Lord promised that the devil would be crushed and sin would lose its grip on man. And through the centuries, God in His infinite wisdom and in His perfect time, fulfilled His promise, at Christmas.

When the time was right, God sent His Son Jesus, to be born of a virgin, in a stable, that He might live and die to pay the price for man’s sin and to buy his pardon. Christ who came down at Christmas wrought the salvation of mankind through His precious death and glorious resurrection, On the cross of Calvary, Christ broke the chains of sin and rescued mankind from eternal death and damnation.

Christmas reminds us that that we have a promise-keeping God. Our God who is a way-maker, who keeps His promise even at the cost of the precious blood of His One and only Son, to restore and reconcile man to Himself. He is faithful to all His promises and loving toward all that He has made (Psalm 145:13). The Israelites knew that not one thing had failed of all the good things which the Lord had spoken concerning them (Joshua 23:14). Paul reminds us that all of God’s promises are yea and amen in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 1:20).

In this season of Advent, are you struggling to believe and hold on to the promises in God’s Word. Are there times you want to just give up and give in, to despair, discouragement, and disappointment? The Lord has been faithful to keep His promises through the centuries, not one of His promises has failed. His word has never failed and He is not going to start now. Would you hold on and continue to trust Him to come through for you, fixing your eyes on Him, the Promise-Keeper?

Lord thank you for being faithful to keep every promise you have made. Help my unbelief, Lord. I choose to trust you.

Have we become complacent and are taking God’s creation and its beauty for granted? Or do our hearts thrill in worship when we see God’s majesty in His creation?

Who is He in Yonder Stall?

Let us ask who is He, anyways? Is He all that people say He is? Is He truly the God of all the universe and the Redeemer of the human race? Who is He?
