Psalm 143:8 – Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.
This is another of David’s psalms and he is in trouble again. And David as always, turns to God in his time of need. He cries out to the Lord, asking God to hear his cry and answer him.
It is interesting that even in his desperate plea, David is only asking God to answer him in character with Himself. David asks God to answer him in His faithfulness and righteousness.
David in his life time, had known suffering of many kinds. He cries out to the Lord as enemies pursue him and causes him to live in darkness. David is in deep misery of the soul. His enemies make him feel pressed and overwhelmed. David has grown faint in his spirit. He is drained. And so, he comes to the Lord and pours out his heart. And then asks the Lord for His Word, to remind him of God’s unfailing love for him and give him direction in his life.
The Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart (Hebrews 4:12). The Word of God is lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105).
When David was in trouble, he turned to God and His Word for comfort and counsel. To whom or to what do you turn, when life’s challenges overwhelm you?
