Who touched me?

Luke 8:4

Our compassionate God is all-knowing.

Luke presents us with a powerful account of a woman who sought healing by touching the fringe of Jesus’ garment. Jesus, followed by great crowds was on his way to the synagogue ruler, Jairus’ house. A woman who had been suffering from a haemorrhage for twelve years reached out and touched the fringe of His garment. And Jesus stops! Astonishingly, Jesus immediately perceives this single touch, and He recognizes that power has gone out from Him. In spite of the crowds that teemed around, pushing and shoving, Jesus knew the single touch of one in need, the faith-filled action of the woman. What an amazing all-knowing God!

In this story, we witness not only the woman’s faith but also the remarkable omniscience of our loving God. This display of omniscience reveals that God is aware of even the slightest details in our lives. He sees the hidden struggles and the quiet cries of our hearts. Nothing escapes His attention.

Gods knowledge is beyond human comprehension: His knowledge is boundless and encompasses the entire universe (Psalm 147:5). He knows the intricacies of every situation, the thoughts of every heart, and the plans for every life (Jeremiah 17:10).

God’s omniscience extends beyond what is visible to the human eye. While we may struggle with the mysteries of life, uncertain about the future or perplexed by our circumstances, God sees and understands it all (Psalm 139:2-4).

God’s omniscience reveals His deep desire for an intimate relationship with His children. He knows us intimately, beyond what anyone else can comprehend (Psalm 139:1-4) God longs to know us fully, to walk with us through every season of life.

What is our response to our all-knowing God?

Trust in His perfect knowledge. We can find peace and security in knowing that our loving God comprehends our struggles, our fears, and our deepest longings (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Rest in God’s Omniscience: The knowledge that God sees and knows everything about us can bring great comfort and encouragement. When we face uncertainties, challenges, or unanswered questions, we can rest in the assurance that our omniscient God is by our side (Psalm 46:1-2).

Embracing His Sovereignty: God’s omniscience is intricately linked to His sovereignty. He knows the beginning from the end and works all things according to His perfect plan. Even when we cannot comprehend the circumstances we face, we can trust that God’s omniscience is at work, weaving every detail together for our ultimate good and His glory (Romans 8:28).

Living with Confidence: As we embrace the reality of God’s omniscience, we can live with confidence and surrender to His divine plan. We can seek His guidance in prayer, knowing that He understands our needs even before we utter a word (Matthew 6:8) Trusting in His omniscience allows us to relinquish our limited understanding and lean on His perfect wisdom.

Finding Comfort in God’s Omniscience: God’s omniscience brings comfort to our souls. It assures us that we are not alone in our struggles, doubts, or fears. He knows the intricacies of our hearts, understands our deepest longings, and is present with us in every situation (Psalm 46:1). In the knowledge of His omniscience, we find solace, knowing that we are held in His capable and loving hands.

Understanding God’s omniscience brings comfort, encouragement, and guidance to our lives. It reminds us that we are never alone, for God sees and comprehends every aspect of our journey. We can take solace in the fact that God knows our deepest desires, our fears, and our weaknesses. With this knowledge, we can approach Him in prayer, laying bare our hearts, and seeking His guidance.

As we meditate on the story of the woman who touched the fringe of Jesus’ garment, may we be filled with awe and gratitude for the omniscient God we serve, who knows us intimately, sees our struggles, and understands our hearts’ deepest longings. May we trust in His perfect knowledge, rest in His loving presence, and embrace His sovereignty over our lives finding the strength to face each day with confidence and the assurance that we are never alone.

Ponder

  1. Take a moment to consider the intimacy of God’s knowledge of you. How does the truth that He knows every detail of your life and understands your deepest longings impact your sense of worth and security?
  2. Are there areas in your life where you find it challenging to trust in God’s perfect knowledge and surrender to His sovereignty? How can you cultivate a deeper trust in His omniscience and embrace His divine plan?
  3. Consider the story of the woman who reached out to touch Jesus’ garment. Are there areas in your life where you need to take a step of faith, believing that God sees your need and will respond to your cry? How can you draw inspiration from her story and trust in God’s omniscience as you step out in faith?
