Numbers 3:13 – … I am the Lord.”

Have you ever considered whether God is truly the Lord of your life, and if so, how does that impact your choices, actions, and priorities?

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines ‘lord’ as one having power, control and authority over others. In the Bible, “I am the Lord your God” appears over 150 times. Clearly God is trying to tell us something. However, unfortunately today, we live in a culture where God doesn’t seem the Lord anymore. Though we have may have moved away from Him being Lord, the Bible and its truth hasn’t. The Lord our God doesn’t change, He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

Genesis 1 tells us God made us. Genesis 2 says Lord God close to eleven times, reiterating that He is indeed Lord, He is the authority, He reigns and we need to make Him number one. The Lord our God is truly mighty who does signs and wonders (Deuteronomy 7:19) and fights for us (Deuteronomy 3:22). He is holy and calls us to be holy, set apart to Him (Deuteronomy 7:6). God exalted Jesus as Lord, name above all names (Philippians 2:9-11). Jesus is head of the church (Colossians 1:18) through whom all things came and through whom we live (1 Corinthians 8:6).

If God is truly Lord of your life and mine, we would obey Him, love and worship Him alone (Deuteronomy 4:23). We would cling to Him (Joshua 23:8), knowing He is our mighty God We are meant to be holy, set apart to the Lord called to offer sacrifices. Paul in Romans urges us to recognise and confess Jesus as Lord (Romans 10:9).

The Lord our God is powerful and unchanging. His power is evident throughout history and continues to be displayed in the lives of believers today. His unchanging nature gives us hope and security, knowing that He will never leave us or forsake us. As we live in light of His power and unchanging nature, we can have peace and joy, even in the midst of difficult circumstances. May we always remember that the Lord our God is worthy of our worship, trust, and obedience and we have 10,000 reasons to bless the Lord.

Ponder

  1. Do you recognize God as the Lord of your life, with power, control, and authority over everything in your life? Have you confessed Him as Lord? If not, why?
  2. In what ways do you seek to obey, love, and worship God alone?
  3. How do you cling to God in the midst of difficult circumstances, knowing that He is your mighty God? How does the unchanging nature of God give you hope and security in your daily life?

God continues to invite people to share the gospel with a needy world. He doesn’t call those who are already equipped, but rather equips those He calls. Despite their weaknesses, He empowers them to accomplish remarkable feats for Him.
