We all know what it feels like to hide—not behind walls, but inside. When hurtful words slip out, old habits return, or guilt quietly rises, our first instinct is to avoid God. We stay busy, make excuses, or push forward, hoping the unease will pass. The issue isn’t that we don’t recognize what’s wrong—it’s how we respond once we do.
Adam and Eve did the same. “They heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden… and hid themselves… Then the LORD God called… ‘Where are you?’” (Genesis 3:8–9, NKJV). Fear pushed them away from God. Sin still works like that today—first drawing us into independence and then into hiding.
God pursues those who hide. The Lord’s question reveals His loving heart, inviting Adam back into fellowship with Him. He sent His only Son who came “to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:10). On the cross, Jesus took the guilt that made us hide—so now, in Him, we no longer have to run.
Pause and Ponder
- When I fail, do I excuse myself, hide, or come honestly to Jesus?
- How could stepping into the light with Christ bring greater peace into my heart and relationships this week?
- Who is God calling me to help move from hiding to hope by pointing them to Christ?
Godly fear does not crush us with shame; it draws us into the light. It is the humble awareness that God is holy, we are sinful, and Christ is our Savior. Instead of covering up, we come to Jesus, confessing our sin and receiving His forgiveness.

Lord, draw me from hiding into Your light. Help me be quick to confess, receive Your grace, and walk faithfully in Your truth. Amen.
