Everyday life gives us quiet but weighty moments, choices that stretch faith, relationships that test obedience, and situations where fear whispers that control feels safer than surrender. In such moments, what truly anchors us is not certainty, but reverence for God. When godly fear takes root, it steadies the heart even when nothing else feels secure.
Abraham’s walk to Mount Moriah confronts us deeply. After years of waiting for the promised son, God asks Abraham to place the very same Isaac back into His hands. And obedient Abraham prepares to do just that. At the crucial moment, the angel declares, “Do not lay your hand on the lad… for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me” (Genesis 22:12, NKJV). This account is a powerful pointer to Jesus Christ, who was given up for us, bore our sin on the cross, and brings us from hiding and self-reliance into surrender and faith.
Pause and Ponder
- What am I most tempted to withhold from God, and how is He inviting me to trust Him with it today?
- How might choosing reverent surrender to Christ bring peace into my heart and relationships?
- Whom can I encourage to move from fear to faith by pointing them to Jesus Christ this week?
Abraham did not know how God would work it out, but he believed God could even raise the dead. Godly fear is not terror—it is deep trust in God’s character, even when obedience feels costly or confusing.

Lord, give me a godly fear that leads me to Jesus. Help me surrender what I hold back, obey You wholeheartedly, and live in the freedom of Christ. Amen.
