4. Jesus Came to Die on the Cross

John 12:24-27
Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.  He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.

We celebrate Christmas because Jesus

  • chose to come down to die on the cross
  • death brought life and life in abundance to all who believe in Him
  • promises to be with us who choose to follow and serve Him
  • promises that the Father will honor those who follow and serve Him

This truth is so beautifully captured in the words of this song:

What kind of love is this
That gave itself for me
I am the guilty one
Yet I go free
What kind of love is this
A love I’ve never known
I didn’t even know His name
What kind of love is this.

Lord, I am humbled and eternally grateful that you chose to come down and die for me.
