The Israelites had just seen the amazing hand of God as He freed them from four hundred years of Pharaoh’s cruel slavery. They witnessed the ten deadly plagues which tormented the Egyptian people but did not even touch the Israelites. What wondrous miracles and a dramatic exit! And then began the exodus.
An exodus of people, cattle and livestock, into the desert. They journeyed, with the Lord personally leading them each day, with a pillar of cloud and a pillar of fire at night. What a sight they must have been.
But their joy was short-lived. They were soon faced with the swirling Red Sea in front of them and six hundred of the best Egyptian chariots, pounding on their heels, behind them. Hemmed in on all sides, with literally no place to go, they were terrified. Their fear caused them to blame Moses for the situation they were in.
But Moses did not react to their accusations. He reminds them that the Lord will fight for them. There was just one catch though, they were to be still!
Be still! That small little phrase may easily be the most difficult command for a believer to obey. And yet, that is exactly what God asks of us. When crisis overwhelms and fear grips, we are not to run or take things into our own hands. We are to trust Him and be still. He will work it out for us.

Lord, help me trust you enough to be still and let you fight my battles for me, I pray.
