Whenever Aaron enters the Holy Place, he will bear the names of the sons of Israel over his heart on the breast piece of decision as a continuing memorial before the Lord. – Exodus 28:29

Aaron was being prepared to begin his service. There are very specific priestly garments that he would wear in God’s presence, within the tabernacle. And one of those garments was the breast piece mentioned in today’s text. The Lord said that Aaron was to wear the names of the sons of Israel over his heart on the breast piece, as a continuing memorial before the Lord. He had the responsibility to intercede on behalf of the people. The people could not even approach God in their sinful state.
Today, New Testament believers are like living stones and are being built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 2:5). Every believer is called to intercede on behalf of others and offer spiritual sacrifices. We are called to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1). Spiritual sacrifices are deeds you do, words you speak, songs you sing, in reliance on the power of the Holy Spirit.
To be the royal priesthood of God is an awesome responsibility and privilege. How you worship God matters. We are to rely on the Holy Spirit to help us worship God, in truth and in spirit. We are to be diligent to intercede on behalf of others and our words and actions are to be motivated by His love.
How can you pray more diligently for those around you?
Lord, help me worship you through my actions, words, and prayer for others, I pray.
