More Than A Physical House (Psalm 127:1-5) LEGACY

Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. – Psalm 127:1

In this psalm, the Bible gives us three word pictures. We are to be workmen, watchmen, and warriors. The goal of all three is that we will leave a legacy of godliness to our children, our grandchildren, and generations to come.

The ‘workman’ is not simply building a physical house. He is building a home, a heritage – a godly family line. He is building a legacy that will take the heart, faith, and ways of God into the next generation. That kind of building is more demanding, extracting and even exasperating sometimes.

Leaving a godly legacy will not happen by chance. It needs to be done intentionally and prayerfully. Leaving a godly legacy takes effort and has so much at stake. We cannot afford to not do it well. We are to build lives, homes, and churches that reflect God’s glory long after we are gone. We want to leave behind a godliness that people are encouraged by and want to embrace in the generations to come.

God is building His kingdom, one home at a time, and we are workmen with Him. Our children are a sacred stewardship from the Lord, for whom one day, we will need to give account. That does not diminish their responsibility. But we, as adult believers, will one day stand before God and give an account for how we built, watched over the city, and fought the battle on behalf of the next generation.

What are you doing today to leave a godly legacy?

Lord, help me be a good and effective workman for you, I pray.
