The Lord said to him: “I have heard the prayer and plea you have made before me; I have consecrated this temple, which you have built, by putting my Name there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there.” – 1 Kings 9:3
The Lord visits Solomon a second time. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE
God graciously appeared to Solomon at the beginning of his reign (1 Kings 3:5-9). And now he appeared to him a second time. What a blessing and a privilege.
And at the dedication of the temple, Solomon had prayed a great prayer of dedication (1 Kings 8:22-53). God gave Solomon an immediate answer of approval at the time of dedication, when the sacrifices were consumed with fire from heaven (2 Chronicles 7:1-7). And now the Lord said to him, after what seems like some years, that He has heard his prayer.
The Lord says, that He has consecrated the temple that Solomon built. Solomon in the power of the Holy Spirit did the physical, outward work of building the temple. But the consecration of the temple, however, was God’s work.
We can do the physical outward work but only God can do the inward and spiritual part. When God calls us to a task, we are to be faithful to obediently do all that God asks us to do. And then we need to trust God to do the heart work.
When we pray for people, sometimes for years, it can be tiring. Fear, doubt and unbelief tend to creep in. But wait patiently on God. He will show up and answer. He will bring change in the hearts and minds of the ones you are praying for. Don’t give up. Pray expectantly.
Lord, help me wait on you patiently in prayer, I pray.
