Your Mark on History (2 Chronicles 28:1-27) CHOICES

Published on Jul 15, 2025

Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. Unlike David his father, he did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord. He followed the ways of the kings of Israel and made idols for worshiping the Baals. – 2 Chronicles 28:1-2

This is a crisp description of the reign of perhaps the worst king of Judah. While many of the previous kings did fall short in some area or the other, king Ahaz, the Bible simply says, did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord. What a way to be remembered.

Though Ahaz had many good examples to follow of his father king Jotham or even examples in history like David, he chose to walk in his own ways. Ahaz not only rejected the godly heritage of the kings of Judah, but he also chose to walk in the ungodly ways of the kings of Israel. The extent of Ahaz’s depravity is seen in the fact that he even sacrificed his children in the fire (v3).

Today, we are not short of godly examples. We have the Bible, which is full of great men and women of God. We also have the examples of saints who have lived and many who even today live wonderful lives among us, of love and service to the Lord.

And yet, many continue to choose the ways of the world, as against God’s ways. It finally comes down to each one’s choice. Choices, small and big, will define the mark we will leave on history.

How will you be remembered?

Lord, may I choose you every day of my life, I pray.
