Compassion in Warning? (Isaiah 24:1-23) FAITH

Published on Jul 18, 2025

Therefore a curse consumes the earth; its people must bear their guilt. Therefore, earth’s inhabitants are burned up, and very few are left. Isaiah 24:6

To warn is to tell someone that something bad or dangerous may happen so that they can avoid it or prevent it. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE

Isaiah’s prophecy warned that the whole earth would be laid to waste, made desolate. And that the reason for the coming judgement is sin. Isaiah lived in a time when greater military powers annihilated their weaker enemies, who must have felt like their world was laid waste. His prophecy could be seen as the overthrowing of Judah and its neighbours. People in all positions and walks of life would come under judgement (v2). Very few would be left.

Isaiah also says the earth is defiled by its inhabitants in three specific ways namely, disobedience to God’s law, violation or altering God’s statutes and breaking the everlasting covenant. And yet there are a few still left. The few that honour God (v5).

Isaiah’s warnings may not have been very comfortable to the ear. And yet, life without the Lord is always ridden with fear, joys are only superficial, and relationships hang under the fragile thread of individual will. Living away from the purity of God’s will, spreads like a virus. Immorality becomes the basis for entertainment, families are shattered, and people are bloated with self-interest and competition. To be told of danger is to be shown compassion.

Many people seem to live successfully without honouring God. But living apart from Him and disregarding His commands and promises leads to spiritual deadness.

Are you among the few that honor God or part of the crowd that is stooped in self and superficiality?

Lord, help me to honor you and live for you all my life, I pray.
