Amazing Faith (Luke 7:1-10) FAITH

Published on Oct 11, 2025

“Lord, don’t trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed. – Luke 7:6-7

Jesus had just delivered the most famous sermon the world has known. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE

As He entered Capernaum, Jesus was  met by a  delegation of Jewish elders who came to Him with a strange and yet urgent request for their friend, a Roman centurion. That was not a very common friendship. Jewish elders did not take kindly to the Roman officers. And yet, here they were.

The Roman centurion’s servant was very ill and close to death. And these Jewish elders had been sent to see if Jesus would be willing to heal this servant. The elders defended their rather strange request by quickly adding that this centurion loved the nation and had even built their synagogue. Jesus agrees to go.

But, as they neared the place, there was another message from the centurion. The centurion sent word to tell the Master, that he was not worthy to have Him under his roof. And yet if the Lord would but just say the word, his servant would be healed.

The centurion was a gentile with a pagan upbringing.  A man of war, stationed in Palestine to ensure that the Jews submit to the Roman emperor. And yet what great faith he had. Jesus amazed turns to the crowd and says that He had not seen such faith in all of Israel.

The men who had been sent with the message returned to the house to find the servant well. What area of your life needs this kind of faith today?

Lord, increase in me humble faith, I pray.
