Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish. – John 6:8-9A
Andrew, may not have been a greatly gifted man, but he sure was a greatly faithful man. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE
Andrew was Simon Peter’s brother, and a member of the fishing community from which Jesus drew several of His disciples. Andrew, who was a devoted disciple of John the Baptist, left to follow Jesus when John pointed Him out as ‘the Lamb of God.’
Andrew, overjoyed with his first encounter with Christ, hastens to find his brother, Simon Peter, and joyfully introduces him to Jesus. Although a seemingly simple act, that introduction made a great impact, not only on Simon Peter personally, but on the ages to come. Simon Peter became the one to whom Christ gave the keys of the kingdom, and through his thrilling, Spirit-anointed sermon on the Day of Pentecost, opened its gates to thousands of newly-converted souls. Little did Andrew know what impact that simple introduction was to have.
And now, here he was again. This time Andrew was introducing this little lad and his five small barley loaves and two fish, to Jesus. Another simple act that had extraordinary impact.
Andrew, a simple, loving man, was content to bring people to Jesus. A man who faithfully did the work nearest to him. He didn’t really apply too much logic or rationale, but simply brought what he could find to Jesus, trusting Him to use as was best. He was not looking for recognition, nor concerned that the ones he introduces end up doing the ‘greater work.’ Andrew is surely one of those last in the world’s estimate who are first in the Kingdom of God.
Are you an Andrew?
Lord may I be quick to bring people and resources to you, I pray.
