The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” – Matthew 20:31
This is a parallel account of Jesus healing blind Bartimaeus found in Mark 10:46-52. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE
Blind Bartimaeus sat along the road to Jericho, along with his friend. His was a small world. He probably had been sitting in this same spot for years. The place for him to sit and beg. Beg for alms, for alms that he needed to sustain himself. He didn’t know much else. He knew how to plead and cry for alms.
But that day something very different happened. The crowds were much more than usual. He could sense a lot of excitement in the air. He could hear the noisy chatter of young and old alike, men and women. The bits of conversation he heard hinted that someone special was passing by. It was Jesus!
Oh yes, he had heard so much about this man. Jesus was this carpenter from Nazareth, He was from the family of King David. And what was more, He had healed all kinds of illnesses, He had calmed the sea and the list goes on. What if Jesus could heal him too?
Bartimaeus was not very educated, but he knew. He knew this had to be the One that the prophets foretold. He knew Jesus was no ordinary man. He knew that Jesus could heal him and make a world of a difference in his life.
Bartimaeus was not going to let this opportunity go by. He raised his voice and called out to Jesus. And guess what? Yes, Jesus stopped and healed him.
Bartimaeus knew Jesus and His power. Do you?
Father, that I would know you more and more, I pray.
