But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. – Mark 13:32-33
The return of the Lord Jesus is for certain. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE
But Jesus says even He does not know the day or the hour. How could that be right? Wasn’t He God, and so didn’t He know everything? Jesus did not know this, not because He gave up His omniscience, rather because He voluntarily, in submission to his Father, restricted His knowledge of this event.
There were things which even Jesus left, without questioning, in the hands of God. What greater warning can there be to those who try to work out times and timetables regarding the second coming of Christ.
There are some who say, we don’t know when He will come, so it really doesn’t matter. While others say, we don’t know when He will come, so we must find out and set a date. Neither of the response is right. The right response is, I don’t know when He is coming, so I need to be on guard and alert.
People are not ready because they fail to watch. Anyone who is alert is not caught by surprise. There is no reason for fearful and hysterical expectation. Rather, we are to simply do our work day by day, to make every day fit for Him. We are to watch and pray. To be alert and live in such a manner that it does not matter when He comes. All of life is to be a preparation to meet our King.
Are you ready to meet Him if He was to come today?
Lord, help me live each day fit for you, I pray.
