No Means No (1 Corinthians 10:1-13) TEMPTATION

Published on Dec 1, 2025

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. – 1 Corinthians 10:13

That could well have been Joseph’s line. Everything that could go wrong, did. Young Joseph was a slave in Egypt, sold by his brothers. He was far away from home and from his father who loved him to bits. He was away from the many comforts of home, good food, and familiar surroundings.

Joseph was bought by Potiphar, an Egyptian official of Pharaoh. And God was with Joseph.  Even though a slave, Joseph found favour with Potiphar, he succeeded in all that he did. Joseph was Potiphar’s personal servant, who put him in charge of his entire household.

But then came trouble in the form of Potiphar’s wife. She found Joseph very attractive, so much so that she called him to bed, not once, not twice, but every day. (Genesis 39:7, 10)

But Joseph! Joseph knew that if he gave in to this temptation, real and strong though it was, he would sin against God (Genesis 39:9). Sin, any sin, is always first against God, and only then against another person.

Desperate situations call for desperate measures. Joseph literally ran for his life. When Potiphar’s wife tried to get hold of him, he ran, even leaving his coat.

Temptations and sin are real in every one of our lives. But God gives the grace we need to overcome.

What do you need to do to flee from the temptation you are battling today?

Father, may I like Joseph flee and say NO to sin each time, I pray.
