Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. – Hebrews 12:1
An athlete runs to win. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE
An athlete who prepares for a race ensures he runs by the rules and that he dresses light. Paul is calling every believer to run the race of life with diligence and perseverance, throwing off everything that hinders and the sin that entangles.
Past failures weigh us down. The devil is so crafty and is ever there to remind us that we have made the same mistake …again. He whispers, once a failure, always a failure. But the truth is, God is not limited by our failures but works all things for the good of them that love Him (Romans 8:28), even our failures.
The devil tries to make sure you never forget. Sharp mean and painful statements that people have made about you can keep you in bondage and from doing what the Lord wants of you.
Guilt is another powerful tool of the devil. He whispers lies telling us that God could never forgive that one. And so, God could never love you or use you. But the Word of God says, if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9) and that God has loved us with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3).
Are you living by the truth of God’s Word or the lies of the devil? Let go of these weights that pull you down and run light.
Father, help me know the truth from lie and live by it, I pray.
