After this, I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.” – Revelation 7:9-10

The multitude that John saw, was so great that it was not possible to count people from different nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues. This multitude is evidence that the Great Commission (Matthew 24:14) will be fulfilled as Jesus promised. The promise of salvation is not restricted to just a few, but open to all.
There were distinction and diversity in the multitude. There will be differences among people in heaven, just as there is on earth. We are individuals and will remain so.
Everything that John saw was with reference to the throne of the Lamb. The central thought of Heaven is the sovereignty of God. All the people were dressed in white robes, signifying the covering righteousness of Christ. It also reminds us of our priestly service.
The palm branches remind us of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, emblems of victory. Dressed in the righteousness of Christ, they worship God for their salvation, recognizing that God is the source of salvation, and no one else. Salvation isn’t something we earn; it is something God gives. The great multitude did not take their salvation for granted.
