Revelation was written around the year AD 96 when the emperor Domitian tyrannized the Roman Empire. The believers then and the ‘saints of God’ down the ages, especially during times of stress and oppression, have been hugely encouraged by this book. Revelation portrays the victory of Christ, despite the terrifying ordeals that confront His people.

Apostle John described the end time collapse of the world of evil. He also identifies Christ through vivid imagery and a variety of titles. Christ is described as faithful and true (v11), the Word of God (v13) and the King of kings and Lord of lords (v16).

In verse 11, Apostle John describes Christ as the Rider of the White horse. ‘White’ consistently stands for purity and heaven in the book of Revelation. And following this Rider were the armies of Heaven dressed in fine linen, white and cleansed by Christ (v8). They are dressed in the righteousness of Christ and washed in the blood of the Lamb (Revelation 7:14)

The different names reveal the distinctive characteristics of the person and work of Jesus Christ. Knowing and understanding Christ keep us from being deceived by those who come in His name, claiming to be Him (Mark 13:5-6).

Which of Jesus Christ’s titles mean the most to us?

As you step into another new year, try and make it a practice to mark the various titles of Christ in your Bible as you read? Use it to pray with confidence, especially through tough times.

Lord, what an amazing God you are. Help me know and love you more in the coming years, I pray.
