The Light of God’s Word

Acts 27:20 – When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days and the storm continued raging, we finally gave up all hope of being saved.

After the hearing by Agrippa, Paul was now shipped off with other prisoners to Rome. Their sea journey was wrought with challenges and delays because the weather was not conducive. Much time was lost and sailing became dangerous.

Paul warned them that he saw that their journey was going to be disastrous bringing great loss to the ship, cargo and even lives. But the centurion was inclined to heed the captain and others rather than Paul. So, they continued their journey. Soon enough a hurricane hit the ship and they took a violent battering from the storm, forcing them to start throwing cargo overboard. But by the third day, it was evident that they were not going to survive.

As Christians we don’t know what storms in life we will face. We will only be out of storms way, when we reach heavens shores. Until then, there will be days when we do not see sun or stars. Times when life around us is dark and hopeless. There may be times when we may lose the cargo of wealth, or bear the loss of health, loved ones, experience disappointments that darken our souls.

But in the darkest of nights and when there seems no hope at all, we yet have the hope of God’s Word as our light and guide. God and His Word can bring light and hope in the worst of situations. Are you dwelling on His Word daily as you journey through life each day?

Lord help me turn to the light of Your Word daily, especially when life seems dark and hopeless.
