Stay Rooted: Living Ready for His Return

1 John 2:28 – And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.

Apostle John offers practical advice on preparing for the imminent second coming of Jesus. The return of Christ is certain, and John urges his readers to be ready. He explains that the way to prepare is to continue in Him, so that when He appears, we can be confident and unashamed.

To continue in Him means to abide in Him, to remain in Him. This concept conveys the idea of ‘living in’ Him, where Christ dwells in our hearts through faith (Ephesians 3:17). In John 14:23, Jesus promised that if anyone loves Him and keeps His Word, He and the Father will make their home with that person.

Christ desires to settle in our hearts, not as a stranger, but as a permanent resident. Abiding in Him continually gives us the confidence to meet Him, as nothing would need to change if He were to come suddenly.

John outlines two potential outcomes for Christians at Christ’s return: we could either be confident or ashamed. If we are abiding in Him, we will be confident. However, if we have been living worldly, unfruitful lives, we might feel shame, as any accomplishments outside of Him would hold no value.

Are you abiding in Him continually? Are there areas in your life that need reordering so that you will not be ashamed at His coming?

Lord, help me to abide in You, so I am always ready to meet You when You return. Amen.

A Freedom to Choose

What is God calling you to today? Would you humbly say yes to His will, however tough the calling?

God Does Not Forget

God Does Not Forget

God does not forget. He works in ways we cannot understand, sometimes through miracles, for His Kingdom purposes. We are to continue to trust and serve Him faithfully.

Come and See

Come and See

God alone can change hearts, we cannot. We are only called to be pointers, directing people to Christ, so that He might change their hearts.
