Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you. – Deuteronomy 4:2
Faith and obedience are always the right response of God’s people. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE
Deuteronomy is sometimes viewed as a series of sermons by Moses. They are words that Moses spoke to all Israel in the wilderness, as the very first verse of this book records.
Moses begins with the all-sufficiency of God’s Word. He reminds the people, not to add or subtract from it. God’s Word is all they needed, and they needed all of it. Moses knew the importance of God’s Word. He pleads with the people to keep the decrees and commands, that he gave them, so that it may go well with them and their children after them and that they may live long in the land the Lord gave them. (Deuteronomy 4:39-40). Moses knew that a heart response of obedience was the undergirding need for the people to be safe.
The Bible is God’s great gift to us. It provides us all that we need to discern His will, to live in love and harmony together as a society, to grow in grace and to share His Word with the lost.
What is your response to the Bible? Some boring book of ancient history? Or do you recognize it as the true living Word of God, alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, judging the thoughts and attitudes of your heart (Hebrews 4:12)?
Would you ask the Lord to reveal Himself to you through His Word and give you a heart that is willing to listen and obey?
Lord, help me love your word more each day, I pray.
