And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” – Matthew 3:17
Jesus grew up in Nazareth.| WATCH ON YOUTUBE
As the son of a carpenter, Jesus grew up in wisdom and stature and in favour with God and man (Luke 2:52). He lived thirty years of His life, in submission to His earthly parents. As He grew, His cousin, John the Baptist, went ahead of Him, preparing the way for Him. John preached repentance from sin and baptized the people in the river Jordon.
At age thirty, Jesus also went to be baptized. John tried to resist saying that he needed to be baptized by Jesus and not the other way around. But Jesus insisted so that all righteousness would be fulfilled. John agreed and baptized Jesus.
As soon as Jesus came out of the water, the heavens opened and the Spirit like a dove came and rested on Him. And a voice from heaven affirmed Jesus saying, this is My Son, whom I love and with Him, I am well pleased.
God had sent His Son into the world for a purpose. He was to redeem humankind from their sins by paying the ransom with His life. And as Jesus was to begin His ministry, God the Father affirms Him.
Those who love and have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour are God’s children and have God-given purposes for life.
How does knowing that you are loved and have a God-given purpose comfort and strengthen you today?
Lord, help me live each day knowing that you love me and have a purpose for my life, I pray.
