The Lord has been speaking through His prophet Ezekiel to the people of Israel. In the earlier chapters, the Lord pronounces judgment on idolaters. The glory of the Lord departs from the Temple. The Lord pronounces sure judgment on Israel and yet promises that they will return too, if they repent.

And now, the Lord goes further to describe the people of Israel as rebellious because they have eyes but did not see and ears but did not hear. And what were these people not seeing or hearing?

The Lord had been using Ezekiel as an object lesson to the people to warn them. The Lord gave His people ample opportunity take heed, to be warned. They had been seeing the many things that the Lord had asked Ezekiel to do as a message. And yet, they behaved like they could not see or hear.

In the following verses, we see God asked Ezekiel to pack his belongings and leave, as if on exile. Ezekiel was to dig through the wall and take his belongings through the hole in the wall. And when the people asked, he was to explain his actions as a sign of the exile that was to come.

The Lord continues to graciously warn us today from His Word and through the lives of people around us.

Are we taking warning and repenting or are we rebellious too?

Lord, help me heed what I hear and see and return to you in repentance, I pray.
