Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets. –Luke 5:5
Jesus the new Teacher on the block, is visiting.| WATCH ON YOUTUBE
Simon and his companions finished an exhausting night of fishing. They had worked themselves to the point of exhaustion, says the Amplified Bible and yet had caught nothing. Disappointed and dejected they were washing their nets. Jesus, the Teacher came by, choosing to use their very boat to teach from.
Jesus settled down and taught the crowd from the boat. When He had finished, then, only then, does the Lord address Simon’s need. He told him to cast the nets out in the deep again. Now, Simon was no rookie. He knew that if he had tried all night and caught nothing, then he was not going to catch any now either. But Simon Peter’s reply to the Lord is precious. He said that they had worked long and hard, but because He said so they would let down the nets. And they did. Simon Peter got a haul so large that he needed help to bring it in (v6-7).
Today when all our knowledge, wisdom and own will tells us to do it this way, would we like Simon Peter say, “because you say so Lord, I will. Because you say so I will trust you, I will not worry, I will keep myself pure, I will choose to love, even those who hate me, trouble me and will go the extra mile with joy.”
Lord, help me go beyond my own knowledge and understanding and do as you ask me to, I pray.
